Ethical Shopping on a Budget :]

A lot of brands/shops which do have ethical policys are more expensive than the ones that  aren't. Here is a list of some brands and shops which are cheaper but still ethical. :]
  • Superdrug own brand
  • Morrisons  own brand
  • Barry M
  • E.L.F
  • H and M
Charity shops/thrift stores are a good place to shop because even if the product originally came from an unethical company you aren't giving them your money nor are you supporting them in any way.

I know this list isn't very big yet but I am trying my best to find out who does what and it is not straight forward. I hope I can make an updated list when/ if I find more.

Buying Ethical Made/Sourced Products

I think that if people knew what was going on behind the scenes they wouldn't want to buy the thing they are buying and I think people need to know what really is going on.

Its not really that there isn't enough information on what's going on, its that its hard to find a simple list of shops/brands that do and don't use child labour/ animal testing /sweat shops etc. and outline things clearly.

I want to to try and make a list of shops and brands that sell clothes, make up, cleaning product, food and so on that are ethically produced so that all the information is in one place. If I get any of it wrong please do correct me, I want to know.

Art Deco Inspired Outfits

As I was sat watching Agatha Christie's Poirot, I noticed that many of the women wore a shirt done right the way up to the top with  an oval brooch where the top button sits. I loved this look so I ordered some brooches online, and tried the look out and I really like it.

I wanted to try and really get an Art Deco feel to this outfit. I choose the shirt because I have seen similar burgundy colours worn by many women from this era, which lead me to believe that it was one of the fashionable colours. The brooches they wore were often oval with stones and pearls in them, to me this brooch resembled one from around this time.

While I was looking at brooches I came across this beautiful Gothic bird skull brooch. I thought it would look wonderful in this style. It has a shape and border resembling those which I saw, but it would give an edgier more modern feel to it.

As I was impatiently waiting for the brooches I had ordered to arrive I found this watermelon pinned to an old jumper and thought that the colours went really well with this blue shirt. I think this is a modern interpenetration of  the style.

Red Lipstick For Day Wear?

I have been really enjoying wearing bright red lipstick recently; I don't go out in the evenings very often so I haven't really worn my red lipstick much because I was always too afraid it was an evening thing, but I started wearing it in the day time. This brought up the question: is red lipstick inappropriate for day time wear?

People seem to have a mixed opinion on this, but in the end I think it depends on how you wear it.

If you are going to wear red lipstick then maybe don't wear so much eye make up just a little bit of eye liner or subtle colours of eye shadow and mascara. This morning I was applying huge winged eye liner but then I made the wings much smaller to allow for the bright lips.

The more red a shade of lipstick is the brighter it looks so buying a bluer one can make a difference,  another thing which will make it more subtle is choosing a sheer one, or one that is more of a tint.

I think that if you like it, and feel confidant wearing it, then it will look brilliant and bold.

Soy Candles

I recently discovered that burning regular candles can lead to lots of health problems, such as cancer, eczema  and so on. Most candles are made  from paraffin, which is made from the gunk at the bottom crude oil, this stuff don't sound good. For more information about that click here.

My point is not about how bad these paraffin candles are, it is about how I discovered my love for soy candles. When I discovered that paraffin candles weren't great I searched for an alternative and discovered soy candles, but they were awfully expensive and I couldn't really afford one.

Eventually, by chance I saw loads of soy candles in TK MAXX, I was so happy because they were only about £6 rather large and in a wide range of scents or as I like to think of them Flavours. I have Two now: a very small vanilla cupcake flavour one and a sea glass flavoured one.

They smell really nice and when burnt the smell fills the room; I often found that with paraffin candles the smell wouldn't fill the room and would simply be non-existent once it was being burnt. I much prefer the soy candles to the other ones.

Very Basic 3D Nail Art

I have always admired people who can do their nails well, and love the Japanese style of nail art. I have been looking at it on Google images for ages and finally decided to have a go.

I ordered these cute little nail bow from eBay I will link them but as it is eBay they might not still be there if you see this post in a a weeks time. They were 30 pieces fro 99p. I got two different set in two different colours, I got one in khaki and another in purple.

The nail varnish I used is Barry M in the colour Silvery Lilac, its quite thin so I had to use 2 coats.

I didn't use nail glue to get the bows to stick I just placed them on to the nail varnish when it was still wet. I think I might buy some nail glue for next time though.

I put the bows right at the back of my nails to stop them form coming off when I did normal things, I always chi the tips of my nails any way.

I want to try some different and more complicated designs so I have ordered a dotting tool form eBay, so I can do that.

I love looking at the little bows on my fingers.

Irregular Choice Abigail's Party Shoe Review

I only have one pair of irregular choice shoes they are the Abigail's party collection/style. They come in LOADS of colours but these were my favorites.

To begin with I found them hard to wear because they looked so amazing I found it hard to put them with an outfit but I realized that they go with loads of things and I started to wear them more :]

For heels they are really easy to walk in, at least that's how I find it. Because they are almost boots and come up around my ankles  more than most other heels, it gives more support and makes them easier to walk in.

They are also comfy and I can wear them all day/ night with out my feet killing me, which is great. Basically they are great and they haven't got any signs of wear at all. :]
